Carol Thompson, 89

Carol Thompson, age 89, of East Grand Forks, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 13, 2026 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks.
Carol Rae Shol was born March 20, 1937 in Grand Forks. She was the only child of Carl and Geraldine (Franklin) Shol. She grew up in East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1955. Carol worked at East Grand Forks Federal Savings & Loan for five and a half years. On August 22, 1959 Carol married Ordean Thompson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of East Grand Forks and entered her new role as a farmer’s wife and mother. They made their home on the farm in East Grand Forks, were blessed with two sons David and Kevin and were devoted members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where Carol was active in many ministries. She taught Sunday School and Confirmation, was in Circle, Work Groups, WELCA, the choir, volunteered in the Church office and was the funeral lunch coordinator for many years, just to name a few. She also served on the Board of Directors for East Grand Forks Community Performing Arts Council. In her spare time, Carol enjoyed keeping an eye on everything happening at the farm.
Carol is survived by her sons David (Jill) Thompson and Kevin Thompson of East Grand Forks; grandchildren Neil (Natalie Wald) Thompson, Kyle (Natalie) Thompson, Kayla and Jadyn Thompson all of East Grand Forks, MN; sister-in-law Marlene Nelson of Roseau, MN; and four nieces. She was preceded in death by husband Ordean Thompson, parents Carl and Geraldine Shol, parents-in-law Oscar and Marie Thompson and brother-in-law Wayne Nelson.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 am, Monday, July 20, 2026 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 1515 5th Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721. Funeral service will be live-streamed on Carol’s page at www.dandahlfuneralhome.com.
VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral on Monday also at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
INTERMENT: Resurrection Cemetery-East Grand Forks, Minnesota
