Vana Lorraine (Winger) Blaufuss, 99

March 23, 2026

Vana Lorraine (Winger) Blaufuss was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Valley 4000, Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND.

Vana was born April 29, 1926, in Eldred, Minnesota to Charles and Julia (Gudvangen) Winger. She graduated high school in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and remained close to her siblings, Everett, Hyman, Arlene Rowe, Ronnie and Dale.

Vana was frugal because she grew up during The Great Depression where her parents lost their farm. She remembered the kindness of the country store lady who always had a free piece of candy for herself and her siblings, a rare treat. Her brother Everett was good at shooting game so the family would have meat at dinner. A large garden and a lot of home canning got them through those years.

On November 19, 1947, Vana married Francis Blaufuss and together they made their home in East Grand Forks and were blessed with 4 children. Duane Blaufuss, Kandace Lloyd, Renae Brewer and Celia Rosencrans. They had many good years together before divorcing.

Vana worked at Irelands Lumber Yard as an office manager and later as part owner of the business for many years before retiring. She found retirement not to her liking and found a part-time job at Modern Information Systems where she microfilmed medical records.

Vana enjoyed going out dancing in her younger years, traveling, golfing and especially going to the casino whenever she had the chance. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and was especially thrilled when they won the world series. We remember her always needing her red lipstick, even if she was going to the emergency room. She was always full of energy and eager to play bingo or go on a walk by the coulee where she used to live. She also enjoyed having a great Manhattan on occasion.

Vana is survived by 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Vana was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her son Duane Blaufuss and granddaughter Jessica Reule.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to the staff at Valley 4000 for their compassionate care.

Vana was a grand lady who will be lovingly remembered by all.
