Donald Cash, 62

April 11, 2025

Donald Cash, 62, of East Grand Forks, died Friday, April 4, 2025 at his home, surrounded by family and friends.

Donald Scott Cash was born October 16, 1962 in Grand Forks, ND to John and Nellie (Baker) Cash. He grew up in East Grand Forks, but Donny left East Grand Forks Senior High School to begin working with his family as a beekeeper with Cash’s Valley Honey. He left home and moved to Braham, MN for work where he met the love of his life, Bonita Doerfler. Donny convinced her and her mother, Mary, to move back with him to East Grand Forks. On February 18, 1984, Donald married Bonita. Together, they made their home in East Grand Forks, where they had a daughter, Melissa, and a son, John.

Aside from beekeeping, he also worked for American Crystal Sugar before he went on to own several of his own businesses, including bars, rental properties, GF Taxi, and several others. Donald was known as a hardworking and selfless man. He loved to spend his time with his friends and family. He’d go out to coffee with his friends every chance they got. He also loved to spend time hunting, fishing, riding ATV’s, going out on the lawn mower, and riding his Harley. Donald was always making memories, no matter who he was with. His quick wit and humor could always bring a smile to your face.

Donny is survived by wife, Bonita Cash; mother, Nellie (Baker) Cash; daughter, Melissa (Don) DeCamp; son, John (Tasha) Cash, all of East Grand Forks; brothers, Tim Cash, Wally (Robin) Cash; sister, Heidi Cash; four grandchildren, Nicklas Cash, Alexis Cash and twins, Jaxson and Weston Cash; mother-in-law, Mary (Tim) Ferestad, and honorary son, Aaron Humble, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends left to carry on his legacy.

He is preceeded in death by father John Cash; grandparents, Amelia Bartuska and Leroy and Nell Baker; sister-in-law Audrey Cash; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones.

Donny’s family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley and the Altru Cancer Center for their dedication, care, and help during his battle. If you’d like to make a memorial in Donny’s memory, the family suggests it to either of those organizations. They’d also like to hear everyone’s story so come ready to tell or share on his page.
