JoAnne Nokelby, 84

JoAnne Nokelby, 84, of East Grand Forks, passed away December 19th 2024.

JoAnne Marie (Lovcik) Nokelby was born on August 2, 1940, the daughter of Frank C. Lovcik and Stella D. (Pohonka) Lovcik on the family farm in Pisek, ND. She attended school in Pisek and after graduating moved to Grand Forks and attended Akers Business college, earning her legal assistant degree. She worked for Brady Martz, the Chamber of Commerce, and over 20 years at the HenryTweten Law Firm.

On December 28th, 1963 she married Gary Nokelby in Pisek and they made their home in East Grand Forks where they raised their two children. JoAnne enjoyed her time bowling, playing cards, gardening, and the outdoors. She would spend many of her summers at Cass Lake where she enjoyed fishing and playing cards with her neighbors, and would work at Stony Point Resort to stay busy. JoAnne volunteered at the East Grand Forks Senior Center and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. JoAnne was very proud of her three grandchildren - when she was able she would make many trips to visit them and watch them play soccer and hockey.

JoAnne is survived by her husband, Gary; son, Jon Nokelby; daughter, Susanne (John) Newpower; grandchildren, Kortney, Jordan, and Ellie; brother, Dennis (Elaine) Lovcik; sisters-in-law, Luwanna Lovcik and Judy Schoellkopf; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joe (Loretta) Lovcik and Francis Lovcik; infant sister, Loretta; infant grandson, Jace Newpower; daughter-in-law, Tracy Nokelby; sister-in-law, Morna Daleen; and brothers-in-law, Rodney (Bernice) Nokelby and Herb Schoellkopf.
