Chuck Hanson, 73

Chuck Hanson, 73, passed away at his home in Grand Forks, ND, on Friday, June 7, 2024.

Ivan Charles Hanson was born March 17, 1951 in Minot, ND to Melford “Rusty” and Regina (Ehli) Hanson. He grew up in Velva and was a gifted athlete and musician, excelling at the trombone and in football, baseball, and basketball. He graduated from high school there in 1969. Then he attended trade school in Colorado for Electronic Technology. Chuck returned to the area after his parents had relocated to East Grand Forks where he made his home and was blessed with three children, Kyle, Heidi, and Derek. He worked at Maury’s TV and Appliance until its closing. He then worked at Altru in BioMed Tech and at the VA in Fargo. On August 21, 2005, Chuck married Chris LaBine at Hope Church in Grand Forks.

Chuck was always busy, tinkering and could fix anything. He loved spending time not catching fish at Big Elbow Lake and pulling his kids behind the boat, sometimes all day long. He enjoyed music and bowling leagues and was an avid Sioux Hockey Fan. Chuck passed his love of sports on to his children and loved supporting them and traveling with them to their events. Last summer he enjoyed teaching his grandson to fish.

He is survived by his wife Chris Hanson of Grand Forks; children Kyle Hanson of East Grand Forks, Heidi Hanson of Gilbert, AZ, and Derek (Kellie) Hanson of Fargo and their mother Mary (Sanders) Hanson; stepchildren Rachel LaBine of Brooklyn, NY and Ligeia LaBine of Grand Forks; grandchildren Lennon Bouvette and Lucy and Gordie Hanson; sisters Debbie Maves of Woodbury, MN and Jan (Charlie) Bridgeford of Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his parents Rusty and Regina Hanson, and infant sister, and brother-in-law Jim Maves.
