Joyce Marie Thibert, 94

Joyce Marie Thibert, 94, of East Grand Forks, MN entered into heaven surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

Joyce was the fourth child born to William (Willie) and Regina (Dagenais) Champagne on a farm in Brooks, MN on September 15, 1928. Joyce attended school in Glassboro, NJ and then moved back to Brooks, MN and married Roy Thibert on September 15, 1947. Joyce and Roy had eight children and eventually moved to East Grand Forks, MN. Joyce worked at Deaconess Hospital and then United Hospital in Grand Forks in dietary until her retirement. After the flood of 1997, Joyce and Roy built their lake home at Maple Lake in Mentor, MN where they enjoyed their later years with family and friends. Joyce enjoyed making quilts for family and for St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor, MN.

In 2013, Joyce and Roy moved off the lake and back to Grand Forks to be closer to family. Joyce spent her days playing cards with friends, attending potlucks, and making soup and baked goods for family when they visited.

Joyce will be remembered most by her hearty laugh, big smile, delicious homemade soups, and handmade quilts. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and always wanted to know of their activities, sports, and events.

Joyce is survived by her children, Alric (Sandra) Thibert; Rosanne Oswalt; Brenda (Mark) Westacott; Kim (Jeannie) Thibert; Deborah (Rocky) Scheving; Priscilla (Don) Campbell; Troy (Debbie Kolden) Thibert; and Anita (Philip) Burke; 24 grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; and also survived by her sisters-in-law, Jeane Marinaro; Bonnie Abbott; brother-in-law, Parnell (Madeline) Thibert; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Rachel Teloh; brothers Rupert Champagne, Lester Champagne, and Harold Champagne; sisters-in-law, Gloria Puffer and Annette Mercil; son-in-law, James Oswalt; and infant grandson, Nicholas Scheving.

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN, followed by a luncheon.

Visitation: 10:00 a.m. visitation with Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.

Internment: 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, at St Joseph’s Cemetery, Brooks, MN.
